Lets say Bob is a do it yourself oil chnage guy.Bob who drives 25,000 miles per year and uses conventional motor oil and filters for 3,000-mile
drain intervals must change his oil 8 times each year:
He uses Conventional 5W-30 or 10W-30 Motor Oil of which he needs
40 quarts needed for 25,000 miles* @ $3.00/qt. x 40 = $120.00
8 Standard Oil Filters @ $6.00 per filter x 8 = $48.00
TOTAL $168.00
Bob DIY oil change guy pays $21 per 3,000 miles.
Then there is Tom another do it yourself oil change guy.Tom also drives 25,000 miles per year and uses AMSOIL synthetic motor oil and high-performance Ea Oil Filters for 25,000-mile drain intervals.
Tom only changes his oil once per year (Note: AMSOIL synthetic
motor oils may be used for 25,000 miles with conventional
oil filters, but filters must be changed at filter manufacturer’s
recommended change interval):
AMSOIL 5W-30 or 10W-30 Motor Oil
5 quarts needed for 25,000 miles* @ $8.90/qt. x 5 = $44.50
1 AMSOIL Ea Oil Filter @ $16.00
TOTAL $60.50
Tom the DIY oil change guy pays only $7.26 per 3,000 miles
Tom saves $107.50 per year using AMSOIL synthetic
motor oil and Ea Filters, while also saving the time and
work associated with changing oil an additional 7 more times per year.
He spends more time (and money) on doing what he likes and is a very happy guy .

I inherited a 94 Olds Royale 88 from my folks shortly before they passed on.
I remember dad driving the car using synthetic oil…. later, I changed the oil
using regular 10-30….. I couldn’t figure out why it was running hard and the oil getting black very fast..Then I remembered that dad had always used synthetic oil. I started using the synthetic and, wow! did the engine smooth out and run like a dream….Smooth!
Right now, I have driven more than 100,000 miles on a single oil change with little oil discoloration and little no usage…. Same filter….
I have calculated that I can get 125,000 miles before my next oil change is due…. great stuff and figures at pennies a change saved……
Hey, I looked at all the oils you have listed as comparison oils against Amsoil. Why not testing against a real synthetic oil ? I had a Amsoil dealer try to convince me to switch to his products until he tried Redline synthetic in a bearing load test. He showed how the Amsoil took so much more of a load to seize the bearings up than his comparison oils. He told me “You give me your favorite oil and I’ll show you how Amsoil will out perform it”. So I handed him a bottle of Redline 10W30 oil. After 15 minutes of trying to overload the bearings, he gave up because they wouldn’t seize with the Redline. All I’m saying is try your comparison testing against real synthetics instead of NASCAR day TV advertizing “Wonder Oils”.
PS -I fully concur with the reduced cost of synthetic extended drain intervals. I run Redline with 12 to 15 thousand mile drain intervals (ie. 1 year), with no ill effects other than having extra money to spend !
Thats right extended change intervals , or for Amsoil 1 yr which ever comes 1st.
It all depends on which test you are talking about.
